Furer von Haimendorf Chr.:”Itinerarium Aegypti,Palestinae,Syriae aliarumque regionum Orientalium..”.Nurenberg 1621. Christofer Furer von Haidendorf left for the Levant in 1565,he visited the Ionian islands where, in Zakynthos, he was the very first who mentioned the memorial of Vessalius (according Blackmer). After stops in Kithira and Crete he arrived in Alexandria and visited Egypt, Sinai, Palestine and Syria. He was able to see the Levant, without being affected by the multi colored but unreliable descriptions still current at that period (Faber du Faur). In his return, he spent time in Cyprus and Crete (both still Venetian). Two chapters, with several pages each, deal with these islands. 16th century lengthy travel accounts are very few, but even less have the accuracy and the valuable information of Furer s account. The book was very rare and look after even in Brunet time, 200 years ago. It has appeared complete only twice the last 35 years. Not in Atabey, Blackmer 640.Extremely Rare
