Keri F.:”Imperatores Orientis compedio exhibiti e compluribus Graecis praecipue scriptoribus a Constantino Magno ad Constantinum ultimum et expugnatam Turcos Constantinopolim”.Tyrnau 1744

First and only edition. Folio 35x22cm,contemporary full blinded leather slightly frayed, covers very richly decorated and adorned with the Imperial Byzantine eagle, edges of text gild and blinded the edges(!!) with fine designs, overall a fine binding, slightly rubbed. Internally clean ,[4]569p.[6] and sixty six (66) copper engravings as called for. Richly illustrated and in very good condition.

  Ferencz Keri (1702-1768) a Hungarian historian compiled, in the middle of 18th century, a detailed Byzantine history. Byzantium ,before Gibbon s time, was very little known in Western Europe. In the enlightenment, the first serious Byzantine studies started , based on the corpus of the published Byzantine authors during late 17th and early 18th centuries and the first systematic attempts to present a comprehensive Byzantine history appeared. The discovery of the Byzantine world, hidden after the Turkish conquest, just started .An early comprehensive Byzantine History very richly illustrated published in Tyrnau (!!) ,now in Slovakia ,by an Hungarian scholar .Rare
