Carl Ivanovich Hablitz (Gablits) (1752-1821) was a Russian academician and officer ,of German descent ,who had been appointed in the middle 1780s by Catherine the Great ,first Russian Governor of the newly annexed Crimea (then renamed the Taurida- Ταυρική Χερσόνησος,by Catherine s ancient Greek revival contemporary effort).As a scientific botanist and geographer took much of his time, in the still unexplored Taurida, to study his physical and topographical shape and to travel around. It is the first scientific exploration of Crimean peninsula and the first of its kind all around Black Sea area. He provides also many information for its economy and the contemporary social and ethnographic situation. The first edition had been published in St Petersburg, both are very rare.
