Imperial FOLIO 55x34cm.Contemporary hard boards, very rubbed, cover of spine missing ,hinges week, still somehow firm ,half title with manuscript notes, title, portrait and 82 copper engravings on 62 sheets only ( 8 huge folded plates, some sheets with two plates) ,missing the folded map and one sheet with two plates ,one folded plate detached but present ,five-six sheets with manuscript old inscriptions ,designs or old graffiti with ink (dated in one sheet August 1871 ),three-four sheets with marginal strong spotting ,two-three with light marginal tears ,the rest ( around 50 Folio sheets with their copper engravings) clean and bright ,in fine condition .A good minus set overall. Chardin travelled in Persia and the Levant in the late 17th century. In early 19th century Napoleon renewed the relations with Persia .As no major work had been published since Chardin time, Langles, a leading orientalist , with the support of the French government, republished Chardin journey, with fine new plates, drawn by contemporary artists An IMPRESSIVE WORK with fine newly drawn plates .Langles edition is RARE.
