Ali Pasha of Yannina incredible story influenced a lot the contemporary Europeans. His rule over Epirus and western Greece for thirty years, his almost independence, his revolt against the Sultan which helped, indirectly, the spreading of the Greek revolution and his tragic death had not passed unnoticed in Europe. The strikingly dramatized scenes depicted were evidently chosen by Davenport to give a romantic view of Ali Pasha s life. The Impressive Folio colored aquatint views are among the best scenes of events in Greece during the early 19th century and pieces of art. The print run was very small, the publication was expensive at its time and has appeared in modern times only five times the last 35 years.
