Johann Carne travelled several times to the Levant, his first trip was in 1821 during the raise of Greek revolution. His accounts started with his first trip to Egypt and Palestine. He later visited Constantinople where he stayed for several months and formed a clear image for the Levant s administration, populations and society. He toured the Greek islands under difficult circumstances, during the Revolution, but was able to provide unique accounts. In 1823/24 he travelled in Cyprus, Rhodes and the Morea. One chapter deals with his visit In Cyprus where he toured around the island and visited several cities (Nicosia, Famagusta, Kithrea etc) and many other places. The provided information is invaluable as few accounts exist for the period just after the crushing of the Cypriot revolt of 1821.In Peloponnesus he landed at Navarino and travelled to Tripolitza where he met several leaders of the Greeks. Both travel accounts Very Rare and in fine condition.
