One of the rarest account for the Levant of early 19th century. Charles-Luis de Sevelinges (1767-1831) a French writer and journalist covered the contemporary situation in Greece in the aftermath of the naval battle of Navarino. After a brief introduction on the recent contemporary Greek history and the revolution, the author provides a detailed account of the situation of the Ottoman Empire in 1828,of the military balance of power in the Levant the same year and the foreseen results of the imminent Russo-Turkish confrontation. His account is very rich with primary sources from the Levant, several accounts are included, as French and Austrian about Greece and Russian about the condition in the Black sea. According the author the Ottoman Empire will cease to exist soon and a Greek Empire must take its place in the Levant. The account had been published at the eve of the Russo-Turkish war which sealed Greek independence. It has been republished only once, in 1920 by Puaux in Paris, just before the signature of the treaty of Sevres which realized the dissolution of the Ottoman Empire, in an equally rare publication. Not in Atabey,Blackmer or any other known collection. Only three copies in public libraries worldwide (two in BNF and Fribourg).A very important account for Greek independence. Extremely rare.
