Van Kampen N.: “Griekenland en Europisch Turkije…der Kennis van Landen en Volken…”.Haarlem 1837

First and only edition. in 8vo 22x13cm,contemporary fine full leather very richly gilt, a brilliant binding with fine Dutch armorial plate in covers, complete 410p. and three fine lithographed views of Greece as called for, text clean and brilliant, overall in fine, almost mint condition. An excellent copy.

Van Kampen, a Dutch historian and traveler visited Greece and the Levant. His detailed travel account of all regions of Greece and most of the Balkans is coupled with other primary Dutch sources. It is an exhaustive presentation of Greece, just after independence, and of the rest of the Ottoman Balkans. It is one of the rarest account for Greece and  the Balkans of 19th century, plenty of invaluable information with few, but unique and original, views and has been published only once. Not in Atabey,Blackmer or any other known collection. Extremely rare and a fine copy in mint condition.
