He took the title of Director der Konigl.Griechenland Gebirgsuntersuchng and became a high Greek public officer. He toured all around the country from 1834 to 1837 exploring every corner of continental Greece and every island. As a high governmental official, he had all possible assistance and information from all local authorities, so he was able to gather invaluable material. It was THE FIRST EVER DETAILED SCIENTIFIC EXPLORATION OF GREECE. The amount of accurate information is amazing. Fiedler was not only restricted in geological matters (he was the first however to rediscover Lavrio mines), but provides, in his very lengthy account, detailed travel itineraries full with information about local inhabitants and local economy of every visited places . This scientific account has been published separately in two volumes, here presenting his travel account for the Archipelago. The first volume covered continental Greece and had been published in 1840,the second cover all the Greek islands, and appeared in 1841.The volume provides detailed description, after local examination, of every, with almost no exception, inhabited island under Greek rule. All have been visited by Fiedler , in several missions, and described in astonishing detail. For Santorin, as example, includes a 60 pages description, the earlier ever in this extent. Even small, almost unnoticed before islands, as Kimolos, had been visited and explored. The volume also contains THE VERY FIRST GEOPHISICAL AND MINER MAP OF GREECE (55x40cm) ever printed, by Friedrich Fleischer. A monumental scientific work which has not appeared the last decades , not in Blackmer, Atabey or any other known collection. Extremely Rare
