The Austrian Loyds started to serve the Levant ports with steamboats as early as the late 1830s.By the 1860s the service had been upgraded and several nice publications of Levantine interest had been published to promote the trips to the Levant. They were finely illustrated with unique lithographed views after designs by famous contemporary painters. Each publication provided information and views for some specific area.
