A very rare account for the Levant. Jean Tardy ,a native of Macon ,a small city in the south of France undertook a travel in Levant during 1882.He kept a detailed daily calendar ( in which he provides concrete dates for his visits) , his travel account has several aspects of the Romantic atmosphere of his time and few historical details are also included for some visited places .Tardy had visited Egypt, Palestine and Syria before reaching Constantinople through Cyprus and Rhodes .He remarked the two flags (British and Turkish) at the port of Larnaca .After a detailed description of Constantinople toured in the Greek Archipelago and visited Athens .He had stayed in the Hotel Grande Bretagne ,found the modern Greeks shabby and left an interesting account for the modern city and its inhabitants .He toured the Ionian sea later and visited Corfu before his return .In the following year he had issued ,in a friend small local publisher house ,his travel account in only 300 copies, all numbered. These local publications in provincial cities with small print runs are Extremely Rare.
