The French military doctor Émile Félix Deschamps was a member of the Marseilles Geographical Society. He traveled around the world on scientific missions assigned to him by the Ministry of Education. This chronicle of his stay in Cyprus provides a clear picture of the Cyprus society, fourteen years after the end of Ottoman rule. Deschamps disembarked in Larnaca, on November 1892 and continued his tour in the island (Famagusta, Nicosia, Kyrenia, Troodos, Limassol, Kykkos, Belapais, Agios Ilarion, Paphos, Salamis, Karpasia etc.) after until 15 months, on March 1894. He gives rich and vivid information describing neighborhoods, bazaars, the peaples everyday life & activities, language, administration, architecture, monuuments, ceremonies and celebrations, costumes and historical events.
