This was the first expedition undertaken sorely at the expenses of the Society of Dilettanti. It was the first time ever that a scientific mission visited and discovered the ancient Greek cities and sites of the Anatolian coastline. The account is also precious for the detailed descriptions of the people and society of the Anatolia, still completely unexplored at that time. This was the first part of his accounts in the Levant, that were concluded with another edition about his Travels in Greece the following year. Contemporary full calf. External wear, creased & bumped corners, small chipped parts over boards and spines, outer joints partly cracked . Internal spottin and signs of water-stain throughout. Not in Blackmer, Not in Contominas, Not in Atabey. Very Rare.
