Potter John, “Archaeologia Graeca, or the Antiquities of Greece”, London, G., G. &  J. Robinson, et al, 1795. Complete in 2 Volumes. 8vo (13.5x22cm), pp.[4], 464, [23] + [2], 420, [34], illustrated with numerous impressive full-page copper engravings depicting antiquities of Greece, artifacts, military tactics, ships etc.

Contemporary full leather, with light wear along extremities and joints, very fine condition inside. Ex-libris label with coat of arms of Thomas Gape and cachets “T*GAPE”.

John Potter (c. 1674 – 10 October 1747), Archbishop of Canterbury, was skilled in Greek and very interested in classical history. His work Archæologia Græca, originally published in 1697 and 1698, met a remarkable success, reprinted several times almost 2 centuries after the first edition.

Fine edition of one of the most influential English studies along Grecian antiquity, adorned with fine copper engravings.
