Two [2] original Livraisons published during the Greek War of Independence in Paris.

[Livraison II]: Volume II, Part I, Paris, J. J. Blaise, 1820. The 14th Chapter  “Chapitre Quatorzieme”, pages [178]-346. Complete including 3 maps (one double-page), 4 full-page engraved sheets including 3 engraved views each, 1 engraved page, 1 double-page table and 1 engraving in text at the beginning of the chapter. According to the livraison’s label, map No.18 “Troade” that should be after page 200 will be included in the Third Livraison, also provided here.

Livraison III: Volume II, Part II, Paris, J. J. Blaise, 1822. The 15th Chapter  “Chapitre Quinzieme”, pages [347]-452. Complete including 3 maps (of which 2 double-pages – one of which is the No.18 “Troade”), 14 full-page engraved sheets of which nine (9) with three (3) views each and three (3) with two (2) views each, and two (2) engravings in text. The Frontispiece is according to the livraison’s label to the next, IV livraison (not present here).  

Both editions published after Choiseul – Gouffier’s death (1817) are dedicated to the topography, monuments, finds, inscriptions and coins of the Troad, edited by Barbié du Bocage and Letronne and include impressive maps & views of Troy area, Alexandria Troas, Chanakkale, Dardanelles, Tenedos.

Gouffier’s “Voyage pittoresque de la Grèce” is a landmark in the history of travel literature, that expressed in a new and original way both the antiquarian and the emergent philhellenic spirit of his day.

Contemporary marbled thick paper covers with the original Livraison’s labels, rebacked. Light spotting throughout, worm-holes along Livraison’s inner part.
