Ex-Libris label “Illustr. Ac Rever. D.D. Aug. Caesaris Episc. Boloniensis” and handwritten owner / dedication on first leaf dated 1889. Edited by Patrick Young, Scottish scholar and royal librarian to King James VI and I, and King Charles I. The text is taken from leaves found at the Codex Alexandrinus (then in the possession of Charles I), and red printing is used to indicate those words in the Greek text which have been supplied by P. Young. The work includes the First Epistle of Clement to Corinthians, the earliest authentic Christian document outside the New Testament, with original text in Greek translated in Latin and commended by Patrick Young. The last 7 pages include fragments of the Second Epistle of Clement with text in Greek & without translation, under the title “Fragmentum epistolae secundae ex eodem ms”. Contemporary full vellum. Small worm-holes throughout, mostly out of text, occasional brown spotting, otherwise clean and tight.
