Complete with 62 pages of text covering the whole Greece and all the thirty-one (31) MAPS OF GREECE (full page copper engravings) by Laurenberg, consisting the most complete corpus of maps of Greece published up to the late 18th century. The edition is adorned with fine woodcut chapter ornaments, engraved initials and eight (8) copper engravings in text, mainly of ancient coins and imaginary views. The influential German scholar & geographer J. Laurenberg (1590-1658), was famous for his maps of Greece, although he had never visited the region. With deep knowledge of Geography and based on earlier geographic and cartographic works, he managed to produce accurate, for the 17th century standards, maps. His famous work on the Geography of Greece has been published by S. Pufendorf posthumously. Contemporary vellum with light wear along extremities, small spots on just the first few sheets, otherwise in Very Fine condition with sharp impression, both the text and the maps.
