MOXON Joseph, “Paradise or the Garden of Eden With the Countries circumjacent Inhabited by the Patriarchs”, c.1680. Copper plate map (32x16.5cm), contemporary hand-coloured, with Cyprus on its NW edge extending to the SE to the Persian Sea. It was based on a Biblical map made in Amsterdam by Nicolaus Visscher and presents biblical place names and centered on the “Garden of Eden”, the “Tower of Babel” and “Nineva”. A cartouche on the upper right corner is depicting Adam and Eve chased out from Paradise, while the same scene is repeated in miniature within the map. Folded twice (as issued).
