Including a full-page engraving entitled “Napoli Costume Grec” with excellent contemporary hand-colouring. Montemont’s “Histoire Universelle des Voyages” was an important collection of world travelogues that followed the increasing interest of the Europeans to travels & specialized travel publications. The current volume, includes contemporary with the publication, early 19th century, travelogues gathering the works of Robert WALSH, Michael Joseph QUIN & Robert LYALL. More specifically, Walsh’s travels under the translated title “Voyage de Constantinople en Angleterre” - 1821-1825 (pp.1-132), Quin’s “Voyage sur le Danube” – 1834 (pp.133-353) with descriptions of the Balkans, Constantinople & the Bosphore, Smyrne, Mytilene, Athens, Piraeus, Patra, Nafplio, Morea & Ionian islands (pp.133-353), Lyall’s, “Voyage en Russie” – 1822 (pp.354-480). Contemporary binding: leather spine with title & decorations in gilt, marbled paper boards. Light external wear, interior in Very Fine condition.
