MERCATOR Gerardus, "Nova Totius Graeciae description", 1638-1680. Beautifully copper plate map (48x32cm) of Greece and the Aegean with the waved impression on sea areas. One of the most “classic” maps of “modern” Greece. It is the same cartographic plate with the map first issued by Mercator in 1589, with different title cartouche. Contemporary outline hand-colouring. Decorative cartouche, sailing ship and elaborate engraving style. French text on verso. Wide margins, slightly soiled paper. paper strip covering marginal tear on lower margin; paper strip reinforcing lower part of middle-fold.
