DAPPER Olfert, “Insularum Archipelagi seu MARIS AEGAEI”, c.1700. Map of the North Aegean, including from Mont Athos and the shores of Thrace and Propontis to the North to Euboea, Skyros & Chios to the South. Impressive title cartouche presenting historical & mythical figures from the ancient Greek history: A man, most probably Aeneas carrying his father, the philosopher Diogenis and three man figures/philosophers holding and writing books, while on the background a woman figure is escaping from a scene in flames (possibly Troy). Strong and fine impression, light stain on upper margin, one marginal small hole. Overall a fine copy. Zacharakis 1295.
