This is the First publication of the important the excavation results of the cemetery located southeast of the village of Fortetsa, in Knossos, originally found by chance by a local peasant, uncovering one of the richest early Greek cemeteries ever discovered in Crete. The research was undertaken by two former directors of the British School of Athens, Humfry Payne & Alan Blakeway, along with James Brock, in two successive archaeological periods from 1933 to in 1935. After the sudden death of Payne & Blakeway, the publication of the archaeological results was made by Brock in 1957, with the publication dedicated to their memory.
