BOISSONNAS Frederic / DALCROZE Jacques, c.1913. Very rare photograph (36x26cm) signed in pencil on lower right corner in pencil by Fred Boissonnas, depicting two dancers from Dalcrozes dancing school, performing impressive dancing exercises [Two Dancers in Flight]. Attached on thick carton. Evident vertical crease along the whole of the right part, spotting & soiling. The Swiss musician and theoretician Émile Jaques-Dalcroze (1865–1950), developed a revolutionary approach to learning and experiencing music through movement, the so called Dalcroze “eurhythmics”. The contemporary Swiss photographer Fred Boissonnas was commissioned to illustrate this dancing Dalcroze’s approach, and managed to magnificently capture the movements of the dancers during their “eurhythmics” performances. The capture clearly refers to the ancient Greek world, which inspired most of Fred Boissonnas’s projects.
