Salzmann was a French academic painter, archaeologist, and early photographer. At the end of 1853, he left for the Holy Land to photograph the monuments studied by archaeologists 2 years earlier. From 1857 to 1865 he was established in Rhodes, excavating the ancient site of Camiros and photographing the archaeological artifacts of the excavation. The current photograph of Terracotta Statues can be considered as one of the earliest examples of photography in Greece. Photograph in excellent condition.
