Antique Stereo Graphoscope, c.1890. French black lacquered Stereo Graphoscope with engraved floral decoration on top; lenses for boudoir card (monoscopic) and stereo view (stereoscopic) card viewing. Dim.: 23x14x7.5 cm when closed. This optical viewer was most often used in a family parlor for evening entertainment. Three optical lenses: the graphoscope’s round magnifying glass allows for detail views of cabinet cards, tintypes, engravings, and other single photographic images, while the two lower eyepicies are for the viewing of stereographic cards. The whole device folds up into a contemporary mahogany box with three compartments, hinged lid, gilt signed handles. Minor scratches and marks, and overall in Fine condition.
