Greek war of Independence: Letter written in Greek addressed to "A.Contostavlo/New York" canc. "PAID*7.JU.1826". Alexandros Contostavlos, a member of Filiki Eteria since 1817, after arrested in Austria and escaped to England was sent to the United States to serve as an envoy for the purchase of two warships (only one purchased). From 1828 he served as a member of the Finacial Committee, appointed by Capodistrias. A very rare document.
