BURY J. B., "History of Greece to the Death of Alexander the Great", London: Macmillan & Co. Ltd, 1902. 3d edition (1st in 1900), in small 8vo, p. xxiii,[1],909. With 210 illustrations in text and 7 out of text (2 folding maps). The book went on to become a standard text in many colleges of the time printed and it was used as a definitive guide to the understanding of the pre-Hellenistic kingdoms. From the beginnings of Ancient Greece (Heroic Age) and the Greek presence in Persia, Asia Minor, Italy and Sicily to the Athenian democracy, the Peloponnesian war and the decline of Athenian Greece, the rise of Macedonia (Aristotle and Alexander) and the final conquest of Persia and East Asia. Luxury full leather binding of the period, with gilt decorated and titled spine, embossed front board (Bedford County Schools Coat of Arm); edge rubbed and bumped. Marbled endpapers, scattered spotting throughout clean and tight pages, a few pencil marks. Uncommon and Good copy overall.
