Agnes Smith Lewis, was English Orientalist, highly educated and proficient in modern Greek, Arabic, and Syriac. In 1883 along with her twin sister travelled to Athens, the Peloponnese, Corfu and other parts of Greece, leaving this vivid account of their experiences. In this work the descriptions of the ancient monuments are blended with interesting information about the modern Greeks everyday life, religious beliefs and customs as well as valuable aspects of the women life in Greece.
