Lot 06902

GREECE: Bronze medal for Zappas Olympics (1875). That was a series of sporting events that took place in Athens in the years: 1859, 1870, 1875 and 1888-1889 and was the first substantial attempt in modern history to revive the Olympic Games. Head of King George I on obverse. Inscription "ΑΓΩΝΟΘΕΤΗΣ ΕΥΑΓΓΕΛΗΣ ΖΑΠΠΑΣ / ΟΛΥΜΠΙΑ ΑΘΗΝΗΣΙ ΑΩΟE" within wreath on reverse. Engraved by Barre. Diameter: 41mm. Inside thick slab by NGC "MS 65 BN / ZAPPAS OLYMPICS - CLASS B / VICTORS AWARD (41mm)". Cert number: 4861763-001.
