The third edition of one of the most important Byzantine lexicon / encyclopedia, originally conducted in the 10th century and containing 30,000 entries on Greek philology, grammar, and literary history. It is also considered one of the earliest dictionaries to be compiled alphabetically. First printed in 1499 in Milan and after by Aldus Manutius in 1514, based on a more accurate manuscript. The current Basel edition is based on the second Aldine edition. Contemporary blind-stamped pigskin, with original clasps, date on front board “1552”. External soiling, rubbing and wear along edges, sopine’s foot and head defective. Some toning, and mainly marginal light damp-staining, some worming mainly towards the end.
