This rare edition contains Gell’s observations of the Argolid, visited by the author in 1801-2 & 1805-6 with special focus on Mycenae archaeological site. The edition includes also includes two maps of the Argolis & the Mycenae. Sir William Gell (1777–1836) was a British traveller, archaeologist and topographer. He visited Greece several times as an envoy of the British government. Fine contemporary full calf. Covers and spine decorated with blind and gilt tooled fleuron motifs, all edges marbled.
