Pitton de Tournefort was sent on a mission to the Levant by Louis XIV in 1700. His work is considered as one of the most important accounts of travels in the East. Rebound, calf spines with title on red Morocco, keeping the contemporary fine blind-stamped covers bearing double dentelle borders and four fleuron cornerpieces. Armorial ex-libris label on front pastedown “John Kort 1757” and Ex-libris “Βιβλιοθήκη Σπ. Λοβέρδου” in gilt on front free endpaper. External wear along the contemporary covers and extremities. Inside spotting throughout, water-stain on upper corners of Vol. II, and large tear on one plate of Vol. II. Atabey 959-961 (various editions) and Blackmer 1318 (first edition, 1717)
