BURNET Gilbert, “Disputatio juridica, ad legem Corneliam de falsis, et ad senatusconsultum Libonianum : quam ... disquisitioni publicae subjicit Gilbertus Burnet …” Ex typographoeo Georgii Mosman, anno Dom., Edinburgi, 1703. Large 8vo, pp. [2], 7, [1].

Rare essay along the e Cornelian law respecting forgery or counterfeiting (passed by the dictator Sylla) edited by Gilbert Burnet, Scottish philosopher and historian, and Bishop of Salisbury. One copy only tracked in the National Library of Scotland.

Fine contemporary gilt tooled binding: contemporary red morocco, covers with four borders with rolls of flowers and scattered small pointille tools, two sets of fleuron cornerpieces, centered on a crown, spine finely tooled in gilt with fleuron designs and five raised bands. All edges and turn-inns in gilt. Armorial ex-libris label with Arms of Hope “Hopetoun” and Ex-libris “Βιβλιοθήκη Σπ. Λοβέρδου” in gilt both on front pastedown.

External light rubbing, wear along spine’s extremities and few bumped spots. Light spotting inside.
