Charles Greenstreet Addison was a British barrister and author that travelled in 1835 throughout the Levant, visiting Greece and Turkey before completing his tour in Syria in October of the same year. His itinerary starts from Malta and he then visits modern Greece (PAtra, Delphi, Athens, Argolis, Aegina, Corinthia, Syros, Delos Chios) before reaching Asia Minor (Troad, Izmir) and Istanbul. He after set towards Syria visiting Damascus, Palmyra and Baalbek. His work is considered to be one of the best nineteenth-century English-language books on Syria with much of the content focuses on the contemporary city of Damascus and the famous ruins of Palmyra. The plates which illustrate his work were based on drawings by W. Thackeray and lithographed by G. E. Madeley. (Ioli Vigopoulou, travelogues.gr).
