DUCHAMP Marcel, BRETON André, “First Papers Of SURREALISM”, New York, Coordinating council of French relief society, 1942. Brochure of the pioneering exhibition held in New York in 1942, where a group of émigré surrealist artists led by André Breton mounted the first major exhibition of surrealist art in the United States. The exhibition was designed by Marcel Duchamp. The brochure includes introductory texts and reproductions of works by Williarm Steig, Marc Chagall, Picasso, Max Ernst, Leonora Carrington, Giorgio de Chirico, Henri Matisse, Morris Hirshfield, Joan Miro, Kurt Seligmann, Yves Tanguy, Andre Masson, Alexander Calder, Robert Motherwell, etc. Texts in French or English. Soft paper edition’s covers with introductory text about the exhibition. Stamps “Howard Bay” on front cover and first blanc sheet. Covers detached, occasional spotting inside.
