A highly important First edition of Hieronymus Froben and his brother-in-law Nikolaus Episcopiu, revised and commended by Simon Grynaeus, the celebrated Swiss astronomer and geographer. Marsilio Ficino was the translator of this edition dedicated to Laurent of Médicis while Cosimo de Medicis was his patron when he started in 1463. The translation, which was completed in the 1470s, contributed in great measure to the rediscovery of critical thinking and of the disciplines of Greek scholarship. Ficino later in his Platonica Theologia tried to prove the harmony between Christian theology and Platonism.

18th century ½ velum binding (spine and corners), hard coloured boards, embossed title label on spine; some wear mainly along edges. Coloured margins, light foxing interior, but very tight. A few ancient notes (pen) in the large margins, along with scattered later pencil underlinings; 2 leaves with light stain in the margin.
